HOW DOES THE LASER REMOVE HAIR?
The laser emits light, which is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling numerous follicles at one time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair’s regrowth.
IS IT SAFE?
Physicians pioneered laser hair removal after more than 30 years of laser research. The laser parameters were carefully defined by studying the anatomy of the hair follicle and precisely matching the laser light and pulse duration to the follicle size, depth, and location to safely and effectively remove the hair. The LightSheer™ Diode Laser has been approved by the FDA for permanent hair reduction for all skin types.
WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF USING A LASER?
Lasers are precise instruments that can be adjusted to the exact parameters that will specifically disable the hair follicle. Unlike precision “hair-by-hair” treatments such as electrolysis, the laser uses a wide beam, which treats many hairs at once. This enables us to treat large areas such as full legs or arms or a man’s full back, leaving the area free of hair in just a few hours. You will see immediate results that will last far longer than shaving, tweezing, waxing, chemical depilation, or other temporary treatments.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
Because the laser treats many hairs at one time, facial areas (chin, lip, cheeks, etc.) can be treated in less than half an hour. Small body areas (underarms, bikini line, etc.) take less than one hour. Larger body areas (full back, full legs, both arms, etc.) usually take about two to three hours, depending on the size of the area and the density of the hair.
DOES IT HURT?
Most laser clients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable, but not painful. For sensitive areas, however, some people do ask for an anesthetic. If you decide that you would prefer an anesthetic, our medical consultant can prescribe a topical anesthetic for you.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE SKIN AFTER THE TREATMENT?
The appearance of the treated area immediately after a laser treatment will vary from client to client depending on the extent of treatment and skin type. Within several minutes of treatment, the treated area will become slightly red and puffy. This reaction subsides and within a few hours, the area returns to normal. Most people return to normal activity right away.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The laser works by disabling hairs that are in their active growth cycle at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter their growth cycle at different times, additional treatments will be necessary to disable all the follicles in a given area. Our hair removal specialists will work with you to develop the treatment program that best fulfills your hair removal needs. We can also provide conventional electrolysis on sparse growth or persistent regrowth. The combination will be quick, permanent hair removal. The number of treatments varies from person to person.
